Nerd Alert

My favorite author, Chuck Klosterman, discusses Twitter and Facebook with a youtube intellectual. While discussing how facebook, and twitter limit the amount of self reflection, increase our self-centeredness and generally "rot our brains" these two tell four personal stories about themselves in just under 5 minutes. The guy with the internet talkshow (and a turn-table) calls Twit/book "Narcissistic Validation". Wait, is the medium the message?

8-Bit Trip

A swedish band, Rymdreglage, went a little crazy and created a ridiculous stop motion movie. I was gonna do this but i don't have any Lego or time...also I think the White Stripes did this 8 years ago. Still, its an incredible nod to old video games. Apparently it took them 1500 hours to produce. I don't doubt it.

Cool Video

I have not really cared about Cold Play in a while but they are one of those bands that continually produce cool videos. They were always billed as the next Radiohead and in this way they have lived up to their potential. They're latest video features some stop motion video and street chalk art, two of my passions. Unfortunately, stop motion video just jumped the shark. It was a good run.

United SUCKS!

It sounds awfully similar to my Chicago to Halifax in which my bag was torn apart and its contents returnted to me in taters and in a garbage bag. Apparently this music video has given the musician a second life as United has contacted him (imagine that) to talk about his issues.

Michael Jackson (1958-2009)

So everyone knows now. I must say that I was extremely shocked and have spent the last 24 hours enjoying some of Michael's best songs and watching endless youtube videos. He was one of the finest performers of all time. He invented music videos and the paparazzi. He made Thriller which stayed in the Billboard top 10 for 80 weeks and donated 7 singles to the Billboard Top 10 in one week. He integrated MTV by being the first black artist to have his video aired. "Bad" was my first cassette I can remember and I still bust the moonwalk (sort of) whenever on hardwood without shoes. He followed in line right behind Elvis, whose eccentricities almost matched their talent. The last 10 years were not easy to watch and it makes it even tougher to listen to the eulogies that will arise this week.

Of all the videos I watched today this one was new to me. James Brown calls Michael up on stage who then calls Prince up on stage. It was a rare scene when James Brown was the "well adjusted" one. It seems to me that had Michael had a semi-normal upbringing he may have turned out a lot like Prince. I wonder if they ever hung out?

Through Etc Etc

Joel Plaskett depicts a typical weekend for me in his latest video. Driving along the east coast just trying to see what i can see. He just rides in slightly more style than me. I'm pretty sure most of this was filmed around Lunenburg and Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia. Thanks to CBC radio 3 for the heads up via Twitter!

Here is my new stop-motion video.  In this lame production a bare a little less of my body and my emotions...so bare with me...sorry.  There is a Director's Slice on my Flickr account with a different song.  YouTube did not let me use The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song by the Flaming Lips because it is owned by the Warner Music Group....Fascists.  The music in the YouTube version is "I Need A Life" by the Born Ruffians.   I hope you enjoy!

My favorite comedian does an interview with my fifth favorite sesame street charachter.  Elmo is surprisingly good on his feet, considering he doesn't even have feet (via Neatorama)

40 Years Ago Today

The Beatles on the rooftop happened 40 years ago today.  It was their last live show as a band. Thanks to Youtube we can watch a whole bunch of it.  Check out all the facial hair!  Reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer starts a Barber Shop Quartet,  The B-Sharps (Scene not found on Youtube).  According to Chuck Klosterman, The Beatles were the 4 most accurately rated band of all time (that is neither overrated nor underrated).  Also for those of you who have nothing better to do here is an Abbey Road Webcam.

Favorite Videos of '08

My favorite music videos of '08 are below. I am keeping it to 3 because I probably watched a total of 15 videos all year and think a Top 10 would not be very helpful (who or what am I helping by posting this? I have no clue). My choices range from the super Hi-Tech camera free video from Radiohead to the Melodrama-tech from Gnarls Barkley and the Pyro-tech of Feist.
